At Pencil, we are driving innovation in advertising technology through our state-of-the-art SaaS product, which harnesses Generative AI to redefine content creation. Our mission is to make AI the default in advertising without replacing creative people. To achieve this, we need to make sure that our technology isn’t just in the hands of big brands - we need to try to help small businesses and creative individuals too.
We’re hiring for a Product Designer to take full ownership of a core area of our platform. You’ll lead design from strategy to execution, working closely with Product and Engineering to shape features that help users create better ads with AI. This role is ideal for someone who wants real responsibility, values clarity and speed, and thrives in an environment where each Designer drives their own part of the product. You won’t just push pixels, you’ll help define what we build and why.
Own a core area of the Pencil platform end-to-end, from problem framing and concept exploration to final UI and shipped product
Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define what we build and why, not just how it looks
Design high-quality, production-ready interfaces, sweating the details across interactions, states, edge cases, and flows
Ensure design intent is fully translated into development by working closely with engineers during implementation, reviewing builds, and iterating until the quality bar is met
Design and improve AI-powered workflows that feel clear, usable, and trustworthy
Conduct user research to identify meaningful problems, validate solutions, and continuously raise usability and clarity across the product
Use and contribute to our design system, helping evolve patterns, components, and foundations as the product scales
Share work early and often, actively seeking feedback while applying strong judgment on when to incorporate it and when to push back
Maintain a holistic view of the product, proactively identifying inconsistencies, opportunities for simplification, and areas to raise craft quality
5+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally within SaaS or complex, workflow-driven tools
A strong portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end product thinking, from problem definition to shipped outcomes
Deep craft sensibility and a high bar for quality, with clear examples of attention to detail in UI, interaction, and system thinking
Proven ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments, taking ownership without waiting for perfect briefs or direction
Strong experience working closely with engineers, with a clear understanding of how design translates into real production UI
Highly proficient in Figma, using it fluently to explore ideas, communicate intent, and evolve design systems
Comfort designing for AI-powered or data-driven systems, or strong curiosity and intuition for how AI changes user expectations and interaction models
Confident communicator who enjoys collaboration, feedback, and critique, with the maturity to defend strong ideas when needed
You have strong opinions about product quality and are uncomfortable shipping work that feels unfinished
You’re comfortable working in fast-moving environments with ambiguity and limited direction
You’re excited by AI as a design material and want to help define new interaction paradigms
You believe great design comes from taste, iteration, and close collaboration
